Red flags
- You must pay a fee for training, uniform, or a background check
- The recruiter only uses WhatsApp and refuses a company email
- They ask for your banking PIN or one-time password (OTP)
- The salary sounds too good for the skills required
- They offer a job without an interview
How to verify a job
- Search the company name plus the word scam
- Apply on the official careers website, not a random link
- Call the company switchboard and ask for HR
- Never share your ID copy until you trust the employer
If you were scammed
Report to the SAPS and your bank immediately if you shared banking details. Warn friends on WhatsApp so others do not fall for the same advert.
