What is the Z83 form?
The Z83 is the official application form for advertised posts in the South African public service. Most DPSA circular vacancies require a completed Z83 together with your CV and supporting documents.
What you need before you start
Gather these documents before filling in the form:
- Certified copy of your ID (not older than 3 months)
- Certified copies of qualifications and matric certificate
- Detailed CV with contact details
- Driver's licence copy if the post requires it
- Z83 pack from Mzansi Work (filled post details plus your CV), or a blank Z83 from DPSA
Step-by-step
Read the full vacancy advert and note the reference number, requirements, and closing date.
On Mzansi Work, open Prepare to apply and download the Z83 pack for government posts only. The official form is filled with the job title, department, reference number, and your personal details from My profile. Qualifications, work history, and references stay on your CV.
Print the Z83 and CV. Sign and date the Z83 in black pen. We cannot sign it for you.
Write the reference number of the post on the top of every page you submit.
Attach certified copies only when the advert still asks for them with the application. Do not send original documents unless the advert asks you to.
Submit before 16:00 on the closing date if posting by hand or courier. Late applications are usually not considered.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Missing the reference number on your documents
- Using uncertified copies
- Applying after the closing date or time
- Not meeting the minimum requirements listed in the advert
- Forgetting to sign the Z83
