Be on time, dress neatly, and show you are reliable, friendly, and ready to work shifts.

Read time

5 minutes

Before the interview

  • Confirm the store location and arrive 10 to 15 minutes early
  • Wear clean, neat clothes. Closed shoes are best for shop floors
  • Bring your ID, matric certificate, and CV if you have one
  • Switch your phone off or to silent

Questions they often ask

  • Why do you want to work here?
  • Can you work weekends and public holidays?
  • How would you help a difficult customer?
  • Have you handled cash or stock before?
  • How will you get to work every day?

What managers want to see

Retail hiring managers look for reliability, honesty, and a positive attitude more than perfect experience. If this is your first job, talk about school projects, volunteering, or helping at home that shows responsibility.

After the interview

If you are asked to complete an online application on the retailer careers site, do it the same day. Save the job on Mzansi Work so you can track whether you applied.
