Requirements

Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery. Registration with a professional council: Registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa as Medical Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery. Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery. Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience after registration with the HPCSA (or recognized foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee) as a Medical Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery. Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience after registration with the HPCSA (Or as recognized foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee) as a Medical Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Clinical skillset to provide effective out and inpatient care. Surgical expertise in paediatric musculoskeletal conditions. Ability to work in high pressure, high volume and resource restricted environment. Ability to function within a team. Ability to transfer skills and teach junior staff and students. Computer skills to allow functioning within digital environment / tools. Computer literacy and database management. Leadership, communication, organisational skills.

Duties

Provision of high-quality outpatient, inpatient and surgical care of paediatric orthopaedic patients. Management of paediatric orthopaedic referral system and theatre lists. Supervision of trainees. Teaching and training of all grades of staff. Participate in relevant research activities in the department. Effective management within the unit to ensuring that equipment is maintained and orthopaedic services are running efficiently. Contribute to the health ecosystem where required.
