Position summary Industry: Education & Training Job category: University and Academy Location: Mafikeng - Capital City Contract: Permanent Remuneration: Market Related Position summary Industry: Education & Training Introduction NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY OF HUMANITIES SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: M000731 POSITION: LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT Job description PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To promote quality teaching and learning, enhance research and innovation, and integrate community engagement. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Teaching and Learning: - Offering quality teaching at undergraduate level. - Supervising honours, master’s and PhD students if qualifies. - Completing teaching and learning related administration. - Participating in processes to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the subject group, school, and faculty. 2. Research and Innovation: - Publish peer reviewed journal articles in high impact accredited disciplinary journals. - Publish monographs and book chapters in books with reputable academic publishers. - Present research in academic spaces such as conferences and workshops. 3. Community Engagement: - Identify and pursue meaningful opportunities to initiate and sustain community engagement initiatives that align research and teaching with community development and service. 4. Academic Citizenship: - Serve on editorial boards and academic association committees, participate in the external evaluation of assessments for other universities, and participate in peer review processes for academic publication. 5. Leadership in the NWU: - Serve, as needed, on faculty committees and in subject or programme leadership roles as opportunities arise. Minimum requirements - A Masters’ degree (NQF level 9) in Development Studies. - A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in teaching and learning at undergraduate level. RECOMMENDATIONS / ADDED ADVANTAGE: - A PhD (NQF level 10) in Development Studies, International Development Studies or Community Development. - Membership with a national or internationally recognised Social Science Association linked to Development Studies. - Post graduate supervision. - Record of high-quality publications in accredited disciplinary academic journals and/or scholarly books published by reputable academic presses. KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: - Computer literate in office tools. - Literate in the use of Learning Management Systems in the tertiary education sector. - Academic module and programme design. - Higher education pedagogical approaches. - Knowledge of funding systems and how to secure funding. BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: - Must have the capacity to mentor senior students and junior colleagues. - Must be able to effectively and independently function as part of a team. - Must be able to work well with a diverse range of colleagues, students, and stakeholders. REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
