Location - Town / City Boksburg Site PG Bison Boksburg Minimum Education Level Bachelors Degree | Advanced Diploma Job Advert Summary PG Bison is looking for an experienced Material Management Specialist to manage the sourcing and procurement of maintenance spares, critical plant components, consumables, equipment, and technical services. The role will support Maintenance, Engineering, and Production by ensuring the timely availability of technically compliant materials, while engaging OEMs and suppliers to optimise quality, cost, lead times, and reliability. The successful candidate will evaluate technical specifications and quotations, manage suppliers and purchase orders, expedite critical and shutdown-related requirements, maintain accurate ERP data, and drive cost reduction, inventory optimisation, alternative sourcing, and operational efficiency in line with procurement, safety, quality, and governance requirements. Minimum Requirements - BTech/Advanced Diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain or Commercial Management, with a qualification in a technical-related field. - 3-5 years’ technical buying experience in a manufacturing, engineering, mining or industrial environment. - Strong technical understanding of maintenance spares, rotating and static equipment, electrical and instrumentation components, OEM documentation, part-number verification, engineering drawings and equipment specifications. - Proven supplier sourcing, negotiation, cost-management and contract experience. - Commercial awareness and cost-conscious decision-making - Attention to detail and accuracy - Planning, prioritisation and follow-through - Relationship management and teamwork - Integrity, accountability and professionalism Duties & Responsibilities - Source and procure maintenance, repair and operations spares, critical plant components, consumables, equipment and technical services for planned, preventive and breakdown maintenance. - Purchase mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation spares, including bearings, gearboxes, motors, pumps, valves, seals, hydraulics, pneumatics, drives, PLC components and control equipment. - Interpret engineering drawings, OEM manuals, data sheets, bills of materials, equipment specifications and scope-of-work documents to confirm technical fit, form, function and compatibility. - Engage OEMs, authorised agents and specialist suppliers to verify part numbers, supersessions, interchangeability, warranties, lead times and recommended spare-part holdings. - Work closely with maintenance, engineering and production teams to identify critical spares, standardise specifications and support asset reliability and plant availability. - Obtain and technically evaluate quotations, challenge specifications where appropriate, negotiate pricing and commercial terms and place purchase orders within delegated authority. - Develop OEM and alternative supplier strategies that balance quality, lifecycle cost, operational risk and delivery performance without compromising technical integrity. - Expedite urgent and shutdown-related orders, manage long-lead items, and resolve shortages, non-conformances, warranty claims and invoice discrepancies. - Maintain accurate ERP master data, OEM references, equipment and part cross-references, pricing history, purchasing records and supplier performance information. - Drive cost reduction, inventory optimisation and responsible alternative sourcing while complying with procurement, safety, quality and governance requirements.
