Location - Town / City Mkhondo Site Mkhondo Minimum Education Level Diploma | Advanced Certificate Job Advert Summary PG Bison is seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter & Turner to join the Engineering team at our Mkhondo MDF plant. Reporting to the Mechanical Foreman, the successful candidate will maintain, repair and improve mechanical equipment to support safe and reliable plant operations. Applicants with a recognised Mechanical Trade Test certificate and at least five years of relevant maintenance experience are invited to apply. Minimum Requirements Recognised Mechanical Trade Test certificate. At least 5 years of maintenance experience related to mechanical equipment. Practical experience in fault finding, servicing and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience in basic boiler making and welding, with competence in turning and milling. Duties & Responsibilities • Perform planned and preventative maintenance on mechanical plant equipment and machinery. • Conduct inline inspections to identify wear, leaks, abnormal vibration and other mechanical defects. • Diagnose breakdowns, identify causes, and carry out repairs to restore equipment safely. • Perform plant shutdown work, including dismantling, overhauling, replacing, and assembling mechanical components. • Install and align equipment, and assist with machinery upgrades and improvements. • Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including associated components. • Carry out turning, milling, basic boiler making, and welding within the scope of competence. • Check equipment after repairs and report outstanding defects or recurring faults to the Mechanical Foreman. • Complete maintenance records and communicate work progress, spare parts needs, and equipment condition. • Follow health and safety requirements, isolation procedures and safe work practices; maintain good housekeeping. • Perform after-hours standby and respond to breakdowns as required. • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and use measuring tools accurately. • Good fault-finding, problem-solving and practical decision-making skills. • Clear communication and the ability to work effectively with maintenance and production teams. • Good planning and organising skills, with attention to detail and quality workmanship. • Ability to prioritise tasks, work independently and remain focused under breakdown pressure. • A responsible approach to safety, teamwork and equipment care.
