Calling Future Deputy General Managers The Capital Hotels is seeking experienced hospitality leaders to join its team in Johannesburg, Gauteng. This Deputy General Manager role is central to delivering outstanding guest experiences, supporting operational excellence across departments and helping shape service standards for the property. Purpose of the role The Deputy General Manager supports the General Manager in running day-to-day hotel operations, ensuring high standards of guest service, operational efficiency and commercial performance. This role acts as a senior leader on site, stepping in for the General Manager when required and driving team performance across food & beverage, front office, housekeeping and facilities. Key responsibilities Assist the General Manager in delivering operational plans and achieving financial targets for the hotel. Lead, coach and mentor department heads to maintain consistent service and operational standards. Coordinate cross-department activity to ensure smooth guest arrivals, stays and departures. Monitor guest feedback and implement service improvements. Oversee health, safety and compliance practices appropriate to hotel operations. Support recruitment, training and performance management initiatives to build a high-performing team. Contribute to commercial activity including revenue management, cost control and inventory oversight. Essential skills and experience Proven management experience in a full-service hotel or large hospitality operation, with responsibility for multiple departments. Strong leadership skills with experience developing and motivating teams. Operational competence across front office, food & beverage and housekeeping functions. Commercial awareness including budget management and basic P&L understanding. Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused mindset. Eligibility to work in South Africa. Desirable skills and experience Experience deputising for a General Manager or holding a senior operational role in a similar-sized property. Knowledge of local market dynamics in Gauteng and corporate or group hotel reporting. Experience with hospitality property management systems and common operational technology. Formal supervisory or management training. Qualifications Professional qualifications in hospitality management, hotel administration or equivalent experience are advantageous but not always required; demonstrable, relevant operational experience is accepted. What we offer The role is Full-time and Permanent. The salary range for this role is R40,000.00 to R100,000.00 per month.
