Tracking Number DOI 73/2026 Department Department of Infrastructure Salary level OSD Enquiries Mr E du Plooy at Etienne.duPlooy@westerncape.gov.za Location - Town / City Cape Town Job Purpose The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to render technical services and support in engineering research, design, manufacturing, operations and maintenance. Minimum Requirements National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant qualification; Three years post qualification technical (Mechanical Engineering) experience; Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Engineering Technician; A valid driving license (Code B or higher). Key Performance Areas Render technical services: Assist engineers, technologists and associates in field, workshop and technical office activities; Promote safety in line with statutory and regulatory requirements; Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings and procedures to incorporate new technology and produce technical designs with specifications and submit for evaluation and approval by the relevant authority; Perform administrative and related functions; Provide input into the budgeting process as required; Compile and submit reports as required; Provide and consolidate inputs to the technical/engineering operational plan; Develop, implement and maintain databases; Supervise and control technical and related personnel and assets; Research and development: Continuous professional development to keep up with new technologies and procedures; Research/literature studies on technical engineering technology to improve expertise; Liaise with relevant stakeholders on engineering related matters. Remuneration Grade A: R 407 337 - R 435 066 per annum (Salary will be determined based on post registration experience as per OSD prescribed). Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements. One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment.
